As part of its cultural program, the Mairie de Villeréal (Villeréal Town Hall) is offering a giant-screen retransmission of Salome, live from the Met in New York. Oscar Wilde?s play inspired Richard Strauss to create a cruel, velvety tragedy with a one-act plot. Popular director Claus Guth sets this biblical tale in the Victorian era, bringing a fresh perspective to a work that brought opera into the modern age.
Synopsis: When Salome hears the voice of the prophet Jokanaan, she immediately falls in love with him and tries to seduce him. When he rejects her advances, she swears she will kiss his mouth. King Herod, crazy about Salome, will do anything to please her.
